Misa's Texture Pack Empty
PostSubject: Misa's Texture Pack   Misa's Texture Pack EmptyFri Mar 23, 2012 9:41 pm

Hey folks!

Incase some of you arn't aware of it, I'd like to share Misa's Texture pack ^^

This is by far the best texture pack out there, I've been using it for a really long time and it still surprises me how awesome it looks!!

Heres the link to the packs forum thread
http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/69354-64x124-misas-realistic-texture-pack-updated-22mar2012/

You also need to patch your minecraft with MCpatcher for it to work
https://github.com/downloads/pclewis/mcpatcher/mcpatcher-2.3.4_02.exe

But some neat features are:
• The textures look AMAZING
• Blocks which give off light flicker (E.G. Torches/Lava)
• Animals such as Pigs, Cows, Cats, Chickens etc blink (The cat blinking is the cutest thing ever ^^)
• Many blocks are animated, like redstone, lightstone, etc. And some items like diamond or redstone ores sparkle.
• It supports Randomobs (which is in MCpatcher) which lets mobs spawn with a random skin from a set of about 40 skins each.
• She always updates it very soon after a new Minecraft version is released!

Misa's Texture Pack Empty
PostSubject: Re: Misa's Texture Pack   Misa's Texture Pack EmptyFri Mar 23, 2012 10:22 pm

Only problem I have with Misa's is that it can be pretty dark at times. There's also not a lot of... variety? Can't really think of an easy term for it. What I mean is that very few texture's are really changed, more just improved. Which can get boring after a while, there's a good reason most texture packs tend to choose a theme and stick with it after all. I also don't really like the difficulty in trying to use any of the alternates, but I guess that's more me than the pack.

I like the darkness of it, besides you could just bump up your brightness setting, dunno if that would help.
I play on 30% brightness with Misa's.

Plus the textures are really nice, most of them arn't just improvements of the default textures. If you want that try Faithful pack (: Thats also a pretty nice texture pack if you like the default textures but want some more quality.

I play with my brightness maxed even with bright packs, and my screen's still pitch black if I get to far out from light. Don't try to say to just pump up my monitor setting's either, all the colors are already washed out enough thank you very much.

And I think you kinda misunderstood me there. If you take a lot of packs, they tend to change the textures to fit a theme. That might be Gothic, or Roman, or steam-punk, or high-fantasy, or whatever. Misa's doesn't though. Everything is just a very spruced up version of what it normally is. Pigmen are pigmen, villagers are villagers, glowstone is chunks of glowing rock, chests are wooden squares, spawners are iron cages, even the GUI isn't anything much different than a very nice redone version of the vanilla GUI.

Compare that to a pack like Painterly, as the first example that comes to mind. Even if you ignore the customizer a lot of things are fairly different from vanilla. If you include even a fraction of the customizer you end up with a whole ton more options. You could make your world look more barren or more full of life, the Nether can be themed around bees or all an unhealthy shade of blue, your passive mobs can all be skeletal if you want or maybe make your zombie a yeti instead.

I don't use that many texture packs, I tend to use custom textures when I want my game to look different, but the majority of the packs I've seen have something that makes them different form vanilla besides a graphical update. Misa's seems to just improve on what's already there rather than adding anything new. Not that that's a bad thing, but I do like some variety once in a while.

Oh right that sucks about ur monitor ):

But yeah, to be honest I've never really been a fan of texture packs which are space themed, or goth themed, steampunk themed or whatever else ^^

I just like things to look normal, so I go for the texture packs which make things look better instead of make it look like another world

Well you can make a lot of smaller changes to the game as well.

You can gear it more towards survival by changing some of the more 'clean' blocks into rougher things. Cobble's a good example of that, a lot of people seem to like it smooth though, so whatever.

You can gear it more towards creative by cleaning up a lot of the roguh textures. Cobble, sandstone, glowstone, etc. are all relatively common materials that don't always work so well in buildings for various reasons.

You can make the game more realistic, which is what Misa's advertises itself as doing. It really doesn't though. I don't have the textures in front of me so I can't point out any hard and fast examples off the top of my head, but cobblestone, planks, and dirt are usually good examples. A 'real' cobblestone would be made of much more jagged, rough pieces, after all you got them from breaking chunks of stone. Ever seen an old hand made house? Pretty rare to find long, smooth, straight wooden floors in there. Dirt is just terrible nine times out of ten, take a look outside and tell me it looks alike.

You could go for a more decorative vibe. Spruce up chests with bits of gold, or iron bindings. Add a plume to your helmet, or a sigil to your chestplate. Not to good at decorations so I don't have a lot of examples of these.

Go the opposite way and make it more gritty. Remove your iron hinges on your door, you only made it out of wood after all. Give your wool a rough, fleecy look as opposed to the normally somewhat smooth. Make your tools look unkempt, they were made without other tools anyway.

I could go on in varyign levels of detail for a while, but I need to get goign at the moment.

PostSubject: Re: Misa's Texture Pack   Misa's Texture Pack EmptySat Mar 24, 2012 7:04 am

You're thinking too hard about it, minecraft has its limits.

You can't actually make a cobblestone texture poke outside of the block area and its not a block which supports transparency either, like most other blocks.

Honestly I just like texture packs which make the textures look nicer than the default ones. They don't have to be supermega realistic or fantasy, they just have to look great, which Misa's does.

I know it has it's limits, and I know you can make a jagged looking cobble block. I've done it. The edge will always be smooth but you can make the tiling at least look like pieces of rock, as opposed to rounded clumps of stone.

And again I have nothing against Misa's, I just like the occasional difference in what the game gives you.
